RADAR AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE

RADAR systems and electronic warfare equipment is increasingly used to track objects from the aircraft and then develop targeting solutions when the actual target is obscured by bad weather or other conditions (smoke, darkness, etc.).

In this display gallery, we present a variety of RADAR systems that we have been able to acquire along with newer technology such as CHAFF (used to obscure or decoy the location of our aircraft while prosecuting the targets).  Come see some of this amazing equipment that is currently used by our aviators that was tested by the folks at Pax River and other support locations.

There sure are a lot of buttons on this aircraft tracking RADAR control

Why is Radar so important? Aviators use radar to aviate, observe, attack and defend.

Anti-aircraft systems use radar to find, track and destroy aircraft. Some of them guide their missiles using radar to “illuminate” the target aircraft. In other cases, the missiles guide themselves after launch using internal on-board radar.

Most surface-to-air missiles use radar to determine if the target is close enough for the warhead to detonate.
